About Ayrshire Cleans
Ayrshire Cleans is a small, independent community litter-pick project in Ayrshire, Scotland, started by Cieran. We clear litter from beaches, paths and forgotten corners, and record every pick-up openly with before and after photos and a pin on a public map. Anyone can report a messy spot.
Independent: we are not part of, funded by or endorsed by any council or public body. We would be glad to talk about working together.
Impact so far
- 3 pick-ups (clean-ups and quick clears)
- 7 bags of litter collected
- 0 spots reported by the public, waiting
- 0 messy areas being watched
Records from 1 November 2026 to 1 November 2026. Counted live from the records on this website, so the numbers change as we go.
By council area
Each pick-up is matched to a council area using its map pin and the official council boundaries (ONS, May 2026). Select a council name to see its spots on the map.

- Clean-up: a planned litter pick, with before and after photos.
- Quick clear: a small spot tidied on the way past.
- Reported spot: a place a member of the public told us about that is not cleaned yet.
- Messy area: a wider area we keep an eye on and return to.
Data you can use
Download every public pick-up as a CSV file (date, type, place, area, council, bags and a rough location). Locations are rounded to about 1 km. Some locations are left out on purpose for privacy. The file is made fresh when you download it. Please credit “Ayrshire Cleans”.
You can also see every pick-up on the live map and in before & after, and read our goals.
Privacy and safety
- Faces and car number plates are blurred on the phone before any photo is uploaded. Photo location data (GPS) is removed.
- Only public places go on the map. Nothing near anyone's home is shown. The public map and data never show exact times of solo clean-ups.
- Reports from the public are checked by hand before they appear. Reporters' contact details are never shown.
- Nothing is posted to social media by itself. Every post is checked first.
- We don't pick up needles, sharps or dangerous items. We report them to the council: North Ayrshire, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire.

Accessibility
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. The site works with a keyboard and screen readers, text can be made up to 200% bigger, and there are settings for high contrast, easier reading and less motion. Map colours are chosen to be safe for colour-blind people, and each council also has its own letter and line pattern. The map always has a text list as well. Read the accessibility statement.
